1. Browse the boardwalk.

Most beaches have a boardwalk that is full of shops and restaurants. Take a walk on the boardwalk one day, grab a bite to eat, peruse the shops and even take in an arcade game or two. If you’re lucky, the boardwalk may also have a carnival for you to enjoy as well.

2. Go fishing.

If the beach has a pier, find out if you can fish from it. Some piers will have places to rent fishing equipment from if you didn’t bring your own. You’ll have to follow the rules, as some piers may have a struck catch-and-release policy.

3. Read a good book.

The beach is relaxing, and if you’re not swimming in the water, use the time to read a good book (or two). You may be surprised at how much reading you can get done while sitting on the beach.

4. Build a sandcastle.

You can’t go to the beach and not build a sandcastle. Whether you have the tools or not, start constructing a sandcastle (or other type of sand creation). Make a competition with your friends or family members to see who can create the best (or biggest) castle.

5. Look for seashells.

Bring a bucket with you, walk the beach and look for interesting seashells. You may just find something really cool, and you can use these to adorn your sandcastle or bring home and use a decorations in your home.

6. Take pictures.

The beach makes for some pretty interesting scenery, and with the right camera, you can snap some great pictures. Walk along the beach to find some interesting shots. Keep them for yourself to enjoy, or share them on your social networking sites.

7. Write messages.

Use the sand to write messages. Take a picture of it, and share it with someone who isn’t with you. (This is a really sweet gesture if your significant other is not with you.)

8. Surf, boogie board, jet ski or parasail.

Some beaches offer a variety of activities, such as surfing, boogie boarding, jet skiing or parasailing. Find a vendor along the beach and enjoy one of the many physical activities.

9. Play a game.

The beach is a great way to get exercise, as the sand give you resistance that works some of your core muscles. Play a game of beach volleyball, beach football, beach soccer, beach frisbee—basically, beach anything. You’ll have fun and get a great workout too.

10. Watch the sunset.

Watching the sunset over the beach is a beautiful sight. The way the colors cast on the water is very picturesque. Enjoy watching the sun go down, and then take a walk to a nearby restaurant for some nightlife entertainment.
