New Year’s Resolutions For Couples

The new year is a great time for setting new goals but trying to do them on your own can be a tough ask. Try making resolutions with your partner and it will help to keep you both motivated and give you a great excuse to spend more time together and share in a common interest. Here are some new year’s resolutions for couples to enjoy together:

Take up a sport

Health and fitness is one of the most popular themes for New Year’s Resolutions, but there are bound to be plenty of lapsed gym memberships and unused fitness equipment clogging up cupboards by the time February arrives. Staying motivated is the toughest challenge of staying fit and healthy, but doing it together is a great way to ensure you keep going. Try choosing a sport or an activity that you can both do and enjoy and it means spending some quality time together as well as keeping you both on track for your health goals.

Take a holiday

It is easy for life to get in the way of our relationships and enjoyment, but set yourselves the target of spending some time together with no distractions, work or other people getting in the way. A holiday is perfect to help you both escape the daily routine. It doesn’t have to cost the earth either, with plenty of UK ‘staycations’ and cheap holiday packages abroad. If you know a couple who haven’t treated themselves to a break for a while, then holiday vouchers make great gift ideas for two as well.

Spend more time together

It’s a simple one, but still very important for healthy relationships. Making time for each other alongside other commitments including work, children, friends and family can sometimes seem an impossible task. Try being disciplined and set aside one evening a week or diary in a specific time every fortnight when you forget about everything else and just do something together, whether that’s a cosy meal for two or a trip to the cinema, it doesn’t matter too much what you do, so long as you take that all-important time out just to be together.

Cook more

“A family that eats together, stays together,” or so the saying goes. You could go one step better though and resolve to cook together as well. Cooking is a great way to spend an evening and turn what is often treated as a mundane task into quality time together. You can even vow to make your cooking healthier, picking up fresh ingredients from a local farmers’ market. If your cooking skills are more Michelin tyres than Michelin-starred then try signing up to a cookery class together to pick up expert tips.

Tell each other how you feel

It’s easy to fall into lazy habits in your relationship and start to take each other for granted, especially if you’ve been a couple for a long time. But if you want to avoid the niggling arguments, then simply resolving to tell each other when you’re angry or annoyed and talk through problems can cut down on the rows. At the other end of the scale, resolving to say those three simple words, “I love you,” more often is the simplest way to remind each other how you feel every day.
