Your Life is the Product of Your Habits

What if I told you that your life is the product of your habits? That’s right. The things that you continuously do, whether you are aware of them or not, make up your life.

Sure, you have a lot of hopes, dreams and objectives – these are all great and everything, but it’s actually the small stuff, the things that we continuously do, regardless of whether we are aware of them or not, that actually make the big difference in our lives.

We just can’t help it. We are drawn to behave a certain way when we find ourselves in certain situations.

The surprising thing to all of this is that this is all a choice. I know, you’re probably thinking, “How can I choose my habits? If I feel like I do things in an almost instinctive way, how can I choose to act that way?”

Well, at this point, your habits may seem automatic. But at some previous point in time, you actually chose those habits.

You have to remember that given any situation, you can choose to take many different paths. You can choose to resolve the issue in many different ways. But due to the fact that you keep choosing a certain path, it became a habit.

It all started with a choice. I know this is hard for a lot of people to accept, but this is the absolute truth.

Just how important are your habits? Well, to borrow a quote that was supposedly said by the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius, “Your habits determine your destiny.”

According to the quote, if you sow a thought, you reap a word. When you sow a word, you reap an action. When you sow an action, you reap a habit. When you sow a habit, you reap a character. When you sow a character, you reap a destiny.

Now, what’s amazing about this quote is that it starts with something you can choose. Everybody can choose what they think about. That’s right, you can always judge your thoughts. You can always take ownership of them. You can always direct them a certain way.

From this, it proceeds to your destiny. Now, I don’t know about you, but the last time I asked, most people don’t know what their destinies are, much less feel that they can assert much control over them. But this statement is true.

Because if you change the way you think, you eventually change your habits, which in turn changes your destiny. It all boils down to the things you habitually do. Accordingly, change your daily habits, and you change your life.
