This week has seen the staggering news that parking wardens in the UK have been issuing questionable tickets. No kidding Sherlock! An investigation by the BBC Inside Out programme has revealed that wardens are using underhand means to enable the writing of more tickets at the expense of the unfortunate and unsuspecting public. I am not exactly falling off my chair in shock here as I have long suspected less than ethical practice but I am surprised that the situation has taken so long to hit the spotlight.
Both councils and private operators in the UK are prohibited from setting targets either for the number of tickets produced or revenue generation but surprise surprise that is exactly what they are doing! Wardens are under pressure to perform and so common sense and ethics fly out the window as the pressure to produce results takes over. I knew this was happening from personal experience and it is time for the dodgy dealings to stop.
