Top Five Frosty Resorts

When we’re off on holiday the last thing we’re thinking about is wrapping up, never mind long johns, but why not try a holiday with a difference? You’ll have to wrap up, but the experience will be breath-taking in one of the top ten ice hotels.

o    Snow Village
Being built for the 12th time this year, this resort is decorated in a different way every year, taking it’s art form to a whole new level. It has 30 rooms available to stay in – each one a different theme; an ice bar which serves drinks in ice glasses; even a chapel made of ice, which you may decide is the perfect place for your up and coming nuptials. Make sure to warn the guests to wrap up though.

o    Snow Castle
This architectural phenomenon will be constructed next January for the 18th time. It is made from sea water snow instead of fresh water, because the density makes the structure a lot stronger, meaning over the years they have been able to reach a height of 14.5 metres.

o    The Igloo Hotel
Based on the banks of the Alta River, this hotel offers another amazing experience. You can camp in a Lavvo – a kind of Scandinavian tipi – while enjoying the Northern Lights up close and personal and while being fed fresh fish caught from the river only an hour or so earlier.

o    Kakslauttanen – Log Cabins and Igloos
How about a night in a private igloo under the stars with a view and an outstanding view of the Northern Lights?

o    Hôtel de Glace
Having been built on the former site of the Québec Zoo, this iced funhouse has an added bonus of having the Grande Ice Slide. Set out like a medieval village, this icy town is full of character and definitely fun for all ages.

All of the hotels also offer a range of activities, including ice sculpting classes, sledge rides, saunas, ice bars and day trips to ensure the trip of a lifetime. Everybody loves an ice sculpture, so a whole hotel?  They look outstanding and imagine walking down the aisle in a glass effect chapel with the man of your dreams – you might not be able to wear the dress you had imagined, but then again some long johns and a warm jacket and you might just get away with it. So why not try sculpting your next holiday around visiting one of these phenomenal resorts.
