Having a themed party can be a great way to spend time with family and friends and have a good time. Plus, with a theme, you can easily decide how to decorate, what food to make, what music and what games to play and other entertainment or decoration ideas.
But with all the different party themes that are out there, how do you choose the right one? The following are a few tips to help you pick the perfect party theme.
Think of the reason.
Before you can decide on a theme, you’ll want to know what occasion spawned the reason for a party. For example, is it a birthday party? A retirement party? A holiday party? Knowing the reason for the party can help you decide on a theme. For example, a holiday party and a birthday party will require different theme ideas, so it’s important to know this before making a decision.
Think of who’s attending.
After you know the purpose for the party, you’ll want to think about who’s attending. For example, a party that includes children will need a child-friendly theme. This way, no guests will feel left out. This is the same for adult parties too. For example, if your 95-year-old grandmother or your uptight boss is going to be at the party, you may want to make sure that the theme is appropriate.
Think about time.
There are certain themes that will be hard to pull off during certain times of the year. For example, a luau theme may be hard to do in the middle of winter because luau decorations may be harder to come by. For this reason, you may want to stick with themes that appropriate for that time of year.
You should also think about how much time you have to plan. If you only have a few days, you’ll want to make sure you pick a theme that has costumes and decorations readily available. If you pick a theme that requires guests to buy costumes online, it’s possible that their costumes will not arrive in time. If you’re pressed for time, it’s best to stick with common party themes. If you have some time, then feel free to get more creative.
Think about the venue.
Let the venue help you determine the best theme for the party. For example, if your party is outside, you can have a beach, luau or even carnival themed party. If your party is indoors, you may want to pick a theme that can be incorporated by your venue. Does the venue have a lot of large arches? Then maybe you’ll want to go with a toga themed party. Take a walk around the venue to help you generate some ideas.
Think about the menu.
Though most people tend to think about the menu after the theme is picked, you can also think about the menu first to help you come up with some ideas. For example, if it’s a work-related party and your boss only gave you hotdogs and hamburgers to work with, then you’ll want to make your theme around the menu.
Choosing a theme for your party doesn’t have to be hard to do. Just make sure to use these tips, and you’ll have a perfect theme in no time.
