Tips for the First-Time Baby Shower Host

Organizing a baby shower may seem like a daunting task.  However, it shouldn’t be.  It should be a fun, relaxing time for everyone involved, including the mother-to-be.  If you make sure you plan everything out, including setting up a folding table for gifts and providing comfortable seats for the guests, then the baby shower will go as smoothly.

The Mother
First of all, you have to figure out if you want this to be a surprise baby shower or if you want it to be a planned event that the mother can look forward to while she is pregnant. This depends largely on the personality of the mother and whether she enjoys a surprise or not. Make sure that she is going to be comfortable in the place you are holding the baby shower. She is pregnant, after all, and will need a chair that gives her back plenty of support. Above all, remember that this is all for the mother. If she knows about the baby shower, put as little stress on her as possible.

The Guests
Who do you invite? Well if it is a surprise, then you’re going to need to speak with her closest friends and significant other in order to come up with a list of guests. If it isn’t a surprise, you can simply sit down with her and come up with a guest list together.  Most baby showers are a women only affair, however, sometimes their partners come along as well. You’re also going to want to set up a baby registry online. This will help guests pick gifts for the mother and her soon-to-be-born baby. It will keep her from receiving the same item twice. You can also ask guests to bring small dishes with them, which you can then set out on a folding table for everyone to enjoy.

The Host
Make sure you have plenty of seats for all of your guests. You don’t want to have everyone standing around. If you host the event at a home, use an open space such as a living room to hold the baby shower. If you are planning a large baby shower with multiple guests, especially if it’s a co-ed baby shower, then you may prefer to pick a venue or rent out a private room. Venues are especially a good choice because they provide guests with all of the needed furniture and different types including banquet chairs, restaurant tables, plastic stacking chairs and folding tables.

Also, wherever you decide to host the baby shower, be sure to dress it in a theme. If you know whether it’s a boy or a girl, you can decorate accordingly. Be creative. Have a trash can on hand for wrapping paper and a folding table for the gifts.  This will make cleaning up afterwards much easier for you.  In order to keep things fun and exciting, have some small games to play while opening up presents.

Throwing your first baby shower may seem difficult at first, but once it’s over you’ll realize how fun and easy it was. Just follow these tips, and you’ll be sure to have a successful baby shower.
