There are few things better than feeling sand between your toes as you groove to the best and biggest beats at a beach party. With the waves lapping at the shore, a drink in hand, and surrounded by hundreds or even thousands of other equally up-for-it revellers, a good time is virtually guaranteed. Below are a few of the most renowned beach parties in the world.
Arguably the granddaddy of all beach parties, the Full Moon parties at this beach in Koh Phangan in Thailand are truly legendary. It’s got the palm trees, the white sand and the azure sea; but Haad Rin also, throughout the year, has up to 12 sound systems ranged along the sand, pumping out dance music to up to 5000 revellers at any one time. Koh Phangan itself is party central with clubs, bars and beach parties throughout this tropical paradise. Haad Rin is the biggest and best, and it has become an annual pilgrimage for many backpackers and travellers.
Party from dusk till dawn – twice – at this dance music festival hosted on Sentosa, one of Singapore’s most popular islands. Held every December, this two-day rave attracts top DJs from around the world and a crowd of around 30,000.
For those looking for a dash of style to go with their dancing, head to La Barra in Uruguay’s Punta Del Este. The beaches of Montoya and Bikini play host to regular parties where the rich and famous dance the night away with local and international party goers.
Anyone who knows anything about partying in the sun knows the reputation of Ibiza. In the last twenty years or so it has become a major destination on the clubbing circuit, with revellers coming from all over the world during the summer to dance the night away. Benirras Beach is its best beach party. An egalitarian crowd, where fashionistas rub shoulders with club kids, it is located on the less developed north coast of the island, away from the main club hubs. So you know that the people who travel here are dedicated to the party cause. Beach parties happen every Sunday. Expect bonfires, impromptu drumming circles and, of course, top tunes.
It might sound a bit odd to mention the words ‘beach party’ and Denmark’ in the same sentence, but this area on the outskirts of Copenhagen has a great beach party vibe during the summer months. Lots of Moroccan style cushions and chilled out cafés line the edge of the sand, while DJs up the tempo as the sun goes down.
This beach at Mykonos in Greece is glamorous and hedonistic in a way only the Greeks know. Previously a men-centric affair, the beach party is now open to everyone and stylish hedonists can party until dawn.
Although it may be winter where you are, remember that it’s always summer somewhere. And if its summer by the sea, a good beach party is never too far away.
