Surprise Your Kid With A Homemade Birthday Cake

Kids don’t care where their birthday cake is made, they just care that it tastes great! By making your own cake you will be providing your child with some great memories and saving money as well. There are tons of different things you can do with the cake, so you can get as creative as you would like.

Before you get started, ask your child what theme they want. It might be a movie character, cartoon character, sport or even tractor. Once you have the theme ready to go, you can get all the supplies you need. Look around online for pictures if you don’t already have a clear idea of what you want. There are a lot of amazing ideas out there to choose from.

What do you need to prepare?

There are really only a few simple tools you need in order to prepare. If you want to make the cake into a cool shape, buy a cake pan. These are now being made into all sorts of fun shapes, including: cartoon characters, cars, animals and more. Any of these can be found online, so shop ahead of time if you want one of these. If you are just going for a basic shape, use an existing cake pan you already have. A cupcake cake is another great option if you want something easy to clean up.

Other than that, the ingredients you need to include:

– Can of icing

– 7 ounces Greek yogurt

– Box of your choice cake mix

– Food coloring

– Decorations (Dollar Stores have lots of these that can go on top of the cake)

What fun things can be done with the cake mix?

Cake mix might sound like cheating when it comes to making a homemade cake, but there are ways to dress it up. For example, instead of putting in oil and eggs like the box calls for, you can add in a cup of water and 7 ounces of plain non-fat Greek yogurt. This cuts the calories, results in a really moist cake and adds protein as well. This actually makes your cake taste better, so why not?

If you are using white or yellow cake mix, consider creating a rainbow cake. All you have to do is pour the batter into separate bowls and color them each with different colors. Once you are done with this, pour the colors on top of each other in the middle of the pan. When it bakes, all the colors will stay separate so they will be clearly noticeable when you cut into it. Most kids really love having a rainbow cake, but you can also do just one or two colors if you would like.

How can the cake be decorated?

There are tons of ways you can decorate, so look around online for pictures that can provide you with inspiration. If you want to write out words or numbers, you don’t have to buy piping supplies. All you need is a small plastic sandwich bag. Once you have this, the icing will need to be poured inside. Then you will clip off the corner to one side and push down to write out whatever you want. This makes it really easy to write out names and birthday numbers.
