The kitchen is one of the most important areas to clean, yet surprising it is one that is often overlooked. Most people know that the refrigerator should be cleaned at least once every couple of months, but few realize that all the food storage areas also need to be cleaned regularly. This includes food pantries and cabinets.
Cleaning includes completely removing all the food from them and giving them a good wipe down with either peroxide or a bleach-water solution. While you are doing this, it is a good idea to check the expiration dates on the food and toss out any food that is no longer fit to be consumed.
Sponges and dish towels can contain millions of bacteria, yet they are often not given a second thought. Sponges should cleaned with a bleach solution between uses and should be replaced on a regular basis. Ice cube trays are another item that can harbor hidden bacteria and need to be regularly disinfected.
