Try using the slow cooker for a spicy chilli, let it slowly cook over night and then it’s an excellent meal for a day out with the family.

Using a pressure cooker can cook food very quickly without the intense heat needed by a standard kitchen oven. So keep things cooler in the kitchen by planning a meal which can be cooked via the pressure cooker.

You can bulk up a light summer meal by making some of your own bread; its fun to get the children involved so can liven up the school holidays whilst also added to your evening meal.

The Microwave

The microwave is an appliance associated with TV dinners and an unhealthy lifestyle, however you can use a microwave to cook a roast, bake potatoes or even make cakes. There are a number of microwave specific recipes available and of course the advantage is that your kitchen stays cool over the summer months.

Make it count

So the barbeque is all fired up but think about cooking some extra chicken, this can be kept for the next day and shredded served with a salad and possible a walnut and raspberry vinegar.
