Always a Dull Moment

If there are two things we can be sure of in the UK, they have to be taxes and rain. A dull sky would have been a better reflection on one of artist, John Constable’s countryside paintings than the many sunny landscapes for which he is famous. Having built my own home not once but twice, I have learnt a thing or two about good home design. I now know what I like and what I do not like and one thing that constantly annoyed me after my first build, was the need to get out of my car to open the garage.

Build Number Two

This time, there would be no kicking myself for having to wait for the rainfall to ease off a little before getting out of the car. The ideas behind the practicalities of house number two were backed by a steep learning curve. This time there is no need to exit the car until the car is safely in the garage and the house is now built above the garage to not only save space, but to keep everyone nice and dry when they leave the car. The garage door is now on a roller that is remote controlled so the door is opened from the comfort of the car.

Safer and More Secure

Although security was not a consideration, my wife has remarked that she feels a lot safer when she is putting the car in the garage at night because she doesn’t need to get out of the car at all. Although our area of London is not particularly dangerous, there are always exceptions to the rule and any locality can have incidents that are out of the ordinary. Although not quite the same, a neighbour of ours at our previous build used a remote control for their gates and this is what produced the idea of a remote garage door.

Style and Sophistication

The added style that comes with a remote access garage door speaks for itself. Initially we wanted an up and over door, but because our garage opens on to a pavement, there would always be the possibility of injuring a passer-by. This is why we decided to go with the roller door and this gives the added benefit of more ceiling space within the garage, which is used for extra storage. The addition of the remotely controlled garage door may not have added a great deal of value to our home, but when we come to sell it, it will definitely speed up the sales process.

Roller garage doors come in all sizes and they can be made to fit in with the style of your home. We were quite lucky because we had white rendered walls and we opted to stick with white for the garage.
