Icefields Parkway – Alberta

Also known as Highway 93, the Icefields Parkway is one of the most scenic highway routes in the world. Linking Jasper, Alberta in the north and Lake Louise in the south, the two hundred and thirty kilometer drive offers spectacular views of the Canadian Rockies – all the while traversing through Jasper National Park and Banff National Park. Besides the beautiful mountains, you will also witness gorgeous turquoise lakes, spectacular glaciers, and impressive waterfalls. Of course, there are also plenty of camping areas, lookouts, picnic areas, and numerous scenic hiking trails for you to stop at along the way. In addition, you can view wildlife such as mountain goats, sheep, elk, bears, caribou, birds, etc. Moreover, besides the mountains, this route also follows three important river headwaters, and if you wish to learn more about glaciers, and even visit a glacier, the Columbia Icefields Visitors’ Centre is an excellent place to visit along the way. Just remember to bring a lunch with you as restaurants can be hard to come by along this natural route.

The Dempster Highway – Yukon and Northwest Territories

For the more adventurous, a road trip to the Yukon is a must. Almost a seven hundred kilometer trip, this route will start at Dawson City and end at Inuvik in the Northwest Territories. This highway is definitely more challenging than your typical highway, but is definitely worth the time and effort it takes to travel on this highway as the views are definitely original and spectacular ones. Of course, as you will be travelling in the wilderness, you can expect to see a wide variety of wildlife including Grizzly Bears, caribou, and more. That said, if you prefer not to go this route n your own, there are certain tour operators in the area as well.

Trans-Canada Highway – North Shore of Lake Superior – Ontario

Without a doubt, the north shore of Lake Superior on the Trans-Canada highway makes for a great trip. From the beautiful blue hues of the lake to the hilly twist and turns to the unspoiled forests to the rugged rock cuts, there is always a picturesque sight to see on this route – regardless of the weather. Since Lake Superior is the largest lake in the world, the water is this lake is often compared to an inland sea. Further, those people who wish to see wildlife will not be disappointed as bear, moose, deer and other wildlife sightings are not uncommon. Overall, as the country is so large, there are a variety of different car road trips available in the country. That said, the Icefields Parkway, the Dempster Highway and the north shore of Lake Superior are scenic drives in particular.
