3 Reasons To Vacation In Charleston, South Carolina

If you live on the east coast and are stumped as to where to take your next vacation, you should consider Charleston, South Carolina. Family friendly, with plenty of activities for young and old, it is a great place to visit. Located along the coast, this city is rich with history, beautiful landscapes, and delicious food.

History

Charleston is a city rich with history. Within the city limits are several museums and historic sites. There are over 80 buildings in the old historic district that date back the better part of two centuries. If you’re on a shorter visit, you can visit America’s oldest museum, the Charleston Museum. The area is great for civil war enthusiasts, as they can visit Fort Sumter, the Powder Magazine (which has been standing since 1713), or the American Military Museum. These are just a few of the places within the city where you can take a look at what life was like centuries ago in America.

Nature

Located along the coast, Charleston is one of the most beautiful areas in the state. If you enjoy being outside, the climate of the area is very favorable. Winters are mild, summers are warm, and there is cooling rain throughout the year. If you are a fan of golf, you’ll have no trouble finding a course, as there are several throughout the city. For runners, there are over twenty parks in the area. Also, the shore is nowhere near as crowded as the beaches in Florida, and hosts an amazing view. Bird watching is popular, as there are several species unique to the area.

Dining Out

Going out on the town is a unique experience in Charleston. In the past few years, the city has been recognized as one of the best-dressed and sexiest places in America, while at the same time, it’s been called one of the friendliest, most polite areas. It’s a rare blend, to be sure, but a very stylish, welcoming one. The city has food for all tastes. If you interested in Italian, check out Al Di La, a casual neighborhood restaurant with delicious food at reasonable prices. For a more upscale night out, try Husk, which has been hailed as “one of the best restaurants in the country.” Regardless of where you end up, be sure to try some of the southern dishes.

If you fall in love with South Carolina, as so many people do, make sure to take the time to talk to some of the locals.
