The Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT is among the common natural tools used for curbing cravings and other hindrances in your weight loss goals. EFT is a form of psychological acupressure based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture for the treatment of physical and emotional illnesses. The only different is that EFT does not have the invasiveness of needles.

EFT is simply tapping with your fingertips to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on your head and chest while you think about a particular problem – may it be a pain, addiction, or trauma – and voice specific positive affirmations.

EFT and Curbing Food Cravings

Commonly, when you start “tapping” for a food craving, you will have a memory of an image, place, person, or event that the cravings remind you of. When doing your tapping sequences, it is important that you pay attention to these usually negative images or thoughts that emerge. Listen closely to the statements that your subconscious is telling you are good or bad for you.

Here’s the truth: unless you address these things that cause a psychoenergetic block, you are NOT going to progress forward in your weight loss journey. These issues involved in craving are usually the major challenge for you and the main sabotage in your efforts to shed the unnecessary pounds.

In the Emotional Freedom Technique, you simply acknowledge the self-critical images, thoughts, or feelings that surface. Choose to love and accept yourself while tapping on your meridians. Persistently doing this will help your system improve with time.

Another thing to remember when using EFT for weight loss and curbing cravings issaying your statements with great enthusiasm and all the emotions you can muster. It is a must that you tie the statements in with emotional energy for your subconscious mind to convert your affirmations into reality.

Your subconscious is your “faithful servant,” providing you exactly what you will tell it. It will follow your instructions, and implanting positive affirmations on it will offer you the results you want in your life.

The Specifics of EFT

In order to use EFT, there are two basic areas you need to focus on: the tapping locations and the positive affirmations.

In finding the right tapping points, below are the points that are presented in the order in which they should be tapped:

  1. Top of the head – With your fingers back to back down the center of your skull.
  2. Eyebrow – Just above and to one side of your nose, at the beginning of your eyebrow.
  3. Side of the eye – On the bone bordering the outside corner of your eye.
  4. Under the eye – On the bone under your eye about an inch below your pupil.
  5. Under the nose – On the small area between the bottom of your nose and the top of your upper lip.
  6. Chin – Midway between the point of your chin and the bottom of your lower lip. While it is not directly on the point of your chin, it is called the chin point because it will help people understand it fairly easily.
  7. Collarbone – The junction where your breastbone (sternum), collarbone, and your first rib meet. It is a very important point, referred to in acupuncture as K (kidney) 27. To locate it, place your forefinger on the U-shaped notch at the top of your breastbone. From the bottom of the U, move your forefinger down toward the navel one inch, then go to the left or right one inch. It is not on the collarbone per se, but this point is known as the Collarbone.
  8. Under the arm – On the side of your body, at a point even with a man’s nipple or the middle of a woman’s bra strap. It is around four inches below your armpit.
  9. Wrists – The inside of both wrists is the last point for tapping.

You will next need to know what to say while you are tapping. The traditional EFT phrase states the following: “Even though I have this ________, I deeply and completely accept myself.” Substitute the blank with a brief description of your food craving or addiction, and you may also change the second part of the sentence to fit what you want to say.
