Skin Care 101: The Basics of Skin Care

Caring for your skin is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves in terms of health. All of us want to look good in order to feel good about ourselves. Exposure to the sun and other harmful elements can cause premature aging as well as other skin conditions. Committing ourselves to a basic skin care routine will help keep our skin looking young, fresh and hydrated. There are important steps that we all should do regularly on a daily basis to take care of our skin. The following is a discussion of skin care basics that should be a part of everyone’s skin care routine.

Cleanse for Healthier Skin

Cleansers are a staple among skin care routines. Use a cleanser to wash your face at least twice a day for best results. Ideally this means once in the morning and once in the evening. Your skin needs to be cleansed of all impurities and toxins that may have accumulated on it throughout the day. Whether you wear cosmetics every day, sporadically, or not at all, cleansing your face must always be done to ensure you are taking the best steps towards caring for your skin.

Apply the cleanser onto your face using circular motions moving from the inner areas to the outward areas. Make sure to avoid rough “scrubbing” of your face. After cleansing, rinse your skin thoroughly. Use a soft towel to gently pat your face dry.

Exfoliate Your Skin

Exfoliating our skin helps to eliminate the top layer of dead skin cells and leaves the skin looking and feeling refreshed. This will also make your skin more absorbent for all subsequent skin care products you utilize.

Some exfoliating products are comprised of two components, a refiner and a replenishing solution. The refiner energizes your skin and reveals a more radiant, healthy-looking surface. The replenishing solution is immediately absorbed by the skin to instantly smooth, soften and soothe the skin.

Not everyone has the same skin. For normal-to-dry skin, you should limit exfoliation to once or twice a week. For combination-to-oily skin, you should exfoliate at least twice a week. For extremely sensitive skin, ask your dermatologist to recommend products that will work well with your skin type.

Tone Your Skin

A toner will help to close your pores and replace the moisture that was lost during cleansing and exfoliating. Many people use cleansers as part of their everyday skin care process.

Moisturize

A moisturizer will keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated. Dry skin leads to premature aging. Therefore, putting moisturizer on your face will definitely help your skin. It is still very important to moisturize when you have oily skin. Choose a moisturizer that goes well with your skin type.

Protect Your Skin

The sun’s rays can be very harmful to your skin. Not only will it cause premature signs of aging, it will also increase your risk of getting skin cancer. If you are living a lifestyle where you spend any amount of time outside during the daytime hours, take extra steps to protect your skin with sunscreen. This will provide a shield for your skin that will protect it from harsh elements. Choose a product that has a good broad-spectrum SPF.

There are many moisturizing products that have an SPF protection component included in its formulation. Using a moisturizer which includes SPF protection will combine these two steps into one.

Taking good care of your skin will definitely help maintain a clear complexion and youthful look now and as you age. These basic skin care steps are very essential. If you do these steps regularly, you are sure to see great results.

  1. You are beautiful if your skin is beautiful. No matter what features you have, your skin will be the first thing people will notice when they see you. That’s why it is very important that we always have radiant skin to always leave a good impression. I once was told that it is not advisable to put moisturizer on an oily skin type as it will make your face all the more greasy. But you said that it is important for oily skin to put moisturizer. What’s your source? And also, it would have been a great post if you’ve mentioned/recommended products like for exfoliating and all.
    But good job still.
