How to Get a Tan without Sunblock and Sunburn
This article is posted under HealthGetting a gorgeous, bronze tan is popular, especially during the hot summer months. However, one common issue usually encountered by people who opt for the natural way of getting a tan is sunburn. Getting sunburned is extremely painful, not to mention that it can get annoying since it may take weeks before a sunburn completely heals.

Fortunately, there is a way for you to get a gorgeous tan without using sunblock and without getting sunburned, which is through spray tanning. Spray tanning is becoming a more popular option because it doesn’t involve UV rays (both natural and artificial) at all, lessening the risk for sunburn and skin cancer. This tanning process uses a special mixture that provides your skin with a dark complexion, without having to sunbathe under the sun or use tanning beds. Here’s a guide on how to get a spray tan:
Steps in getting a spray tan
Step 1: Exfoliate your skin.
Before going to your favorite spray tanning salon, it’s best that you exfoliate your skin first. This is to ensure that dead skin cells are removed; the presence of dead skin cells may result in a not-so-smooth tan.
Step 2: Get a shave or wax first before undergoing a spray tanning session.
Another thing you have to do first before a spray tanning session is to shave or get a wax first, if you do plan to undergo hair removal. Waxing and shaving after the tanning session may just remove the tan, making the spray tanning process useless in the first place.
Step 3: Opt for a spray tanning session.
In a spray tanning session, you are usually required to stand up inside a tanning booth. The tanning artist or technician will use a mixture that has DHA or dihydroxyacetone. The DHA is a glycerin derivative that reacts with your dead skin cell’s amino acids, darkening your skin temporarily in the process. The booth will either release a mist of the DHA-based mixture, or a tanning artist or technician will airbrush your skin with the tanning mixture.
Step 4: Keep in mind precautionary measures.
Because the tanning mixture or the bronzer used may cause discolor your clothes, customers are advised to go naked or wear a dark-colored swimsuit during the spray tanning process. You are also required to put on safety goggles and a nose filter to protect your mucous membranes from the possible harmful effects of the tanning mist. Keep in mind that the DHA solution is safe for external use, but may cause irritation on mucous membranes.
Step 5: Keep your skin moisturized.
After the spray tanning session, you should not take a bath or shower within several hours. Also, make sure to keep your skin moisturized so as to maintain the beautiful, bronze complexion as a result of the tanning session.
Tips to make the tan last longer
After the tanning session, avoid using abrasive products and soaps to make the fake tan last longer. Using a moisturizing lotion is one key in making your fake tan last longer. By keeping your skin well-moisturized, your fake bake is sure to last for more days.
