Darwin Awards: The Stupidest Ways People Have Died

Some of us look at the safety labels on our products and street signs and wonder why such an obvious warning of caution even exists. Then we hear about the Darwin Awards and realize that these warnings are there for a reason. The Darwin Awards honor people who have died in so-called “stupid” ways.

Take, for instance, the man who lost his balance while trying to take a picture of himself planking. He fell seven stories and died. Another man, during a protest against helmet laws in New York, died after he flipped over his handlebars and hit his head.

In order to qualify for the Darwin Awards, the story must be true and provable. The person who died or was rendered sterile had to have used stupid judgment and have been capable of using sound judgment instead. The person must also have been a victim of his or her own doing.
