Make Your Toupee Look Less Like a Rug

Having to wear a toupee can be a bit embarrassing, no matter how comfortable you are in your own skin. If it is clearly different from the rest of your hair, people are going to give you the same looks they give Donald Trump with his perpendicular comb-over. There is nothing wrong with wearing a hair piece, but you should try to do so in a way that’s not really noticeable. Otherwise, you might as well walk around with a cat on your head. Here are some tips to help you make your toupee look less like a rug and more like a part of your body.

Get a Custom Hair Piece

The pre-made toupees you can buy off the shelves may not match the natural color and texture of your hair. Sure, these will be cheaper than a custom look, but shouldn’t you pay decent money for something you use every day? Order a hair piece that looks like your head did back when you actually had hair. Unless of course that was back in the mullet days, in which case you may be better off with something more modern.

Look for Real Hair

The best looking wigs and toupees are the ones made from real human hair. These are usually expensive, but they look much more realistic than their artificial counterparts. There are some faux hair strands that look pretty close to real, but a lot of them look like Barbie doll hair. That is the last thing you want on your head. Try to buy something that will look and feel like it naturally grows from your body, not something that a Troll doll would be happy to strut around with.

Change up the Styling

Your hair shouldn’t look the same every single day. It may have a general flow that remains consistent, but the hair itself should change from day to day. That is what normal people would go through because of the way they washed, dried and slept in their hair. If you don’t make an adjustment, people will eventually notice that you have something artificial on your head.

Get a Good Color

Don’t get a toupee in a color that doesn’t match your look. If you have strong Asian features on your face, you might look weird in a blonde wig. You also need to think about the hair from your head that will have to blend in with the toupee. You don’t want that to be a totally different color, right? If you have gray hair, get flecks of gray in your toupee. If you have red hair, get a primarily red toupee. The more natural the colors look, the better off you will be.

Use the tips above the next time you go shopping for a hair piece, and you should be able to find something that works well for you.
