In the 1980s hair extensions were laughable, classed as a fad which would soon die out. How wrong could they have been? Hair extensions have been one of the biggest style must haves or the past few years and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of their popularity dwindling.
You can’t go to a hair salon without seeing someone having hair extensions applied, you can’t walk down the street without seeing them in people’s hair and you certainly can’t turn on the TV or open a magazine to a page of natural heads because every celeb nowadays has hair extensions too. Hair extensions have brought back the main symbol of femininity – long hair. So many people have had their hair cut into the fashionable bob over the last few years and although they loved the new style there was always a nagging regret at getting rid of their long hair, so, they turned to hair extensions. One of the great things about extensions – if you have clip in ones that is – is that you can change you style every day. If you love your short hair but miss the feeling of long hair being blown in the wind every now and again you should definitely consider clip in extensions.
In the world of hair extensions there’s a lot to choose from, clip in or permanent; curly, wavy or straight; blonde, brown or red and most importantly real hair or synthetic? Now that’s the biggest question to be honest but a lot of people don’t know the difference or the pros and cons of each.
Synthetic hair extensions are made from synthetic fibres which are put together in bunches in order to make them look similar to real hair. The great thing about synthetic hair extensions is that they are available in so many more colours than real hair extensions so no matter how wacky your hairstyle is, you should have no trouble lengthening your do. A huge disadvantage to synthetic extensions is that you can’t style them in the same way that you can real hair. Hair dryers and straighteners will literally destroy the synthetic extensions so if you have them put into your hair permanently you could have trouble styling your hair at all.
Real hair extensions are made from real human hair; they look, feel and are as versatile as real hair and you can have them colour matched perfectly to your own hair. You can also style real hair extensions in any way you like – just like your own hair – but bear in mind that the more you do style them the quicker they will become damaged (just like your own hair) but they should still last you months and months with no problems. The final point that puts most people off real hair extensions is the price as they cost so much more than synthetic ones; but if you want quality then you have to pay for it.
