5 Unhealthy Foods You Should Stop Eating Immediately

Dieters often make the mistake of treating themselves after a successful day or week with an indulgence. They may think that they deserve their favorite foods after sticking to salads and baked chicken all week, but they don’t realize that eating one of these five nutritional neutron bombs will actually sabotage all their hard work. These foods have zero nutritional value and are loaded with chemicals, sugar, fat and toxins. Eating the following five foods just once a week can add pounds, derail a diet and instantly put you farther away from your weight loss and fitness goals.

The Number One Worst Food: Doughnuts

Fried, full of white flour and sugar and often topped with cream, chocolate and sprinkles, doughnuts top the list of the worst foods that you should stop eating immediately. The average doughnut is made up of about 40 percent trans fat and contains about 300 calories, which mostly come from sugar. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but having a doughnut is a terrible way to start the morning.

The Number Two Worst Food: French Fries

Potatoes are filled with simple sugars that, when converted to glucose, raise insulin levels. The tubers are even worse for your health when cooked in trans fats. French fries are typically made using vegetable oils like soybean, corn, safflower or canola oils, which are loaded with polyunsaturated fats. When these fats are exposed to oxygen, they produce huge amounts of dangerous free radicals in the body, which can cause inflammation, clotting, weight gain and cancer.

The Number Three Worst Food: Soda

One can of soda has about 150 calories, up to 55 milligrams of caffeine and ten teaspoons of sugar. The beverages are also loaded with sulphates, phosphorus and artificial food colors that leech calcium from the bones and can cause tooth decay, heart disease, obesity, osteoporosis and diabetes. Eliminating the sugary drink from your diet is one of the healthiest choices you can make.

The Number Four Worst Food: Ice Cream Treats

Ice cream may be delicious, but it is packed with fat, calories and sugar. One sundae, shake or double-scoop cone contains an average of 700 calories, 75 grams of carbohydrates and over 20 grams of saturated fat. If you top the serving with nuts, whipped cream, hot fudge sauce and candy and add a waffle cone, you can easily top over 1,000 calories and over four days worth of fat.

The Number Five Worst Food: Chips

Most commercial chips, including tortilla chips, corn chips and potato chips, are high in sodium, carbohydrates, trans fat, artificial flavors and preservatives. One serving of chips is unhealthy enough, but most people eat far more than just the one-ounce serving size in a sitting.

Healthier Alternatives: Eat This Instead

Instead of Doughnuts: Satisfy your sweet tooth in the morning with a slice of low-sugar banana bread.
Instead of French Fries: Sweet potato fries are packed with vitamins and nutrients.
Instead of Soda: Try sweetening your water with sliced lemons, limes or oranges.
Instead of Ice Cream: Have a scoop of fat-free, all-natural frozen yogurt.
Instead of Chips: Indulge in a bowl of veggie chips, sweet potato chips or kale chips.

  1. This article is very informational. I was an athlete during my high school and college years so I don’t care much of the food I eat. Unfortunately, my work now does not give me a long time to go out and burn as much as possible. So, instead of just relying on physical activities to maintain my fitness, I also watch my food intake now. And articles like this are great help to people like me.

  2. To think that the foods mentioned were my favorite foods to consume daily i have become aware of what foods I must not take on a daily basis. Thanks a lot for this very helpful advice and I will always bear in mind that not all good looking and mouth watery food are good for health some of these may cause health problems and cause you more serious problems like diabetes and hypertension.
