Choosing the right rehab center for your drug or alcohol addiction can be a daunting task. You’ve already decided you’re ready to commit to finding success against your addiction. You’ve decided that you want to utilize the help of a rehab center to help you with this endeavor. But you don’t know which rehab center you want to work with. You know it is important for you to find the best addiction treatment center to fit your needs and personal set of circumstances. You know there are many questions you should be asking before working with any addiction treatment center.
You just don’t know where to start.
So, to help you out, here is a list of 10 things you should find out, or 10 questions you should ask, about any addiction treatment center you are considering:
1. Where are they located?
You will first want to know where the center is located. Are you looking for a center close to home, where you can easily access the support of your family, or one situated farther away, so that you can get away from your current life, circumstances, and temptations?
2. How large are they?
Once you know if a treatment center is located near or far enough from you, you want to start asking questions about the actual facility. How large are they? You will want to know if you are looking for a large, more spacious and complete center, or one that is more small and intimate. On top of that, you will want to know what type of environment they provide. Are they a high energy center with a lot to keep you busy? Or a center with a more relaxed, tranquil environment? Are they located in the city, or in more of a rural, peaceful area? All of these are questions you will want to ask and make sure they match the type of environment that you will best thrive in.
3. How experienced are they?
You will also want to know how experienced your rehab center is. How many years have they been in business? How experienced & knowledgeable are the staff?
4. What are their success stories?
You want to make sure that your treatment center keeps the identities of their students anonymous. That said, they should be willing to share with you some success stories of former students. Read these stories and see if they match the type of outcome you would like to achieve. On top of that, you will also want to find out what type of accreditations and licenses they have.
5. How much do they cost?
It is important to know the costs of the treatment center you are considering and whether or not you can afford it.
6. Do they accept my insurance?
If you have insurance, you will definitely want to see if your insurance will cover some or all of your treatment. If they will, you will want to find out if the treatment center you are considering accepts your insurance.
7. What is their focus?
If you are struggling with a drug addiction, you won’t want to go to an eating disorder clinic. If you have an eating disorder, you probably won’t find the most success at a center that works primarily with alcoholics. Make sure you know the focus of the treatment center, and make sure that it matches what you are battling. This will help to make sure that they have the appropriate experience, as well as the most appropriate and most successful methods for your specific set of circumstances.
8. What is their approach?
It is very important to know what ideologies, or belief systems, your chosen rehab center subscribes to. What treatment philosophies do they follow? What approach do they use in their treatment? What programs do they offer? You want to make sure that all of these things match what you are looking for.
9. What type of family services do they offer?
Family can be a very important support system during and after your treatment. How does this rehab center work to strengthen those relationships? What services do they offer to help your family better understand how to support and strengthen you?
On top of that, your family may have been affected by your addiction. Does the center offer any support or counseling to them to help them work through their emotions surrounding your addiction? This will help them to heal, as well as helping them to be an even better support to you moving forward.
10. What type of after care support do they offer?
You will also want to know what type of after care programs and support they offer? It is wise to find a center that has a strong after care support program. This will help you to better ease into your life after your time in the rehab center, helping you to better adjust to your new independent life, and to find more success.
