What Electrical Appliances Are Running Up A Bill In Your Home?

With energy prices being hiked up every single winter, it can be difficult to keep up with your energy bills. You may be desperate to reduce the price of your bills as it can get very unmanageable. There are many tips available on how to run an eco friendly home but not all of these tips are that successful.

To help you out, I have put together a list of electrical appliances that are very expensive to run.

Air Conditioning

It is said that almost half of your annual energy bill will go on cooling and heating your home. It is important to have the temperature just right as it can get uncomfortable if you are sitting there too hot or too cold.

If you have an air conditioning system in your home, you should fit it in a place that is not in direct sunlight. It is said that if you do place it in direct sunlight it will use up to 10% more energy.

If you have an old air conditioning unit (more than 10 years old) it is advised that you should replace it for a newer model, this can save you up to 30% in running costs. You should get your air conditioning system serviced once every 12 months, as this will eliminate any faults your system may have, saving you money in the future.

Instead of switching the air conditioner on, why not open a few windows and doors first? It isn’t necessary to have the air conditioning on constantly so save a bit of money and let some fresh air flow in.

Laundry Dryer

If you have a dryer in your home then you will probably already know how expensive they are to run. If you do not maintain your dryer then you will be incurring even more unnecessary costs, you should clean the lint screen after each load. By keeping it clean, unblocked and maintained your dryer will be running as efficient as possible. If you let your dryer get clogged up then you will find that you will have to have it on for much longer, costing you a lot more money.

Refrigerator

Your refrigerator uses more electricity than any other electrical kitchen appliance; this is because it has to use so much energy to keep it running efficiently. Each year you should spend some time maintaining your fridge, it is advised that you should clean the coils at least twice a year.

It is also said that your fridge and freezer will run more efficiently when they are full, if your fridge is looking a bit bare, put some water containers at bottom of the fridge or put ice bags in the freezer.
