The block or “engine block:  is that part of an engine that most people visualize first when they think of the power plant which drives their conveyance down the roads and highways.  In 2012 generally most vehicles either have four six or 8 holes called cylinders.  More powerful and upscale luxury models may even have 16 cylinders – yet in our fuel thrifty electronics laden time period most cars & run of the mill trucks on the road will carry the standard 4 or 6 cylinders on board.  Larger vehicles and trucks may be outfitted with an 8 or V-8 setup. Each cylinder contains a cylindrically shaped object, call “pistons” which slide or “travel “in the open cylinder interior areas. Depending on the layout of the engine itself the regular movement of the pistons themselves inside their cylinder area can be up and down or side to side.

Since we are dealing with combustion, the block gets quite hot indeed – hot enough to damage the engine and result in very expensive repairs.  In such cases you may even need replacement of your gas engine with a replacement refurbished or reconditioned unit.   Since an internal , combustion engine has many moving parts, lubrication is essential for smooth and operation and additionally lubricants increase and extend mileage that a vehicle’s motor will power the automobile down roads during its lifespan.  This block, contains tubular passageways, in which coolant and lubricating oils circulate.  It is topped by the cylinder head bearing “saddles” the purpose of which is to hold the crankshaft and allow it to turn.

Leduc as her friends call him has been well known as a “truck gal” in the northern regions of Alberta for as long as anyone else has driven around.  Still she  says while new is always best if you have a used vehicle – first of all keep it well maintained , Secondly drive safely for as Louise  says its not always easy to find a auto service center open  in Edmonton  early 3 am Sunday morning.  Then again she says – you can always check out Kijiji or Craiglist in BC, Ab or Saskatchewan.  Although a purist with manual transmission Louise says automatic transmissions and power accessories are nice touches.
